Growing up in the local Ukrainian community was a monumental influence on my life. Learning to cook and hear the language from the older generations and spending quality time with my cousins; it seemed like everybody in the world was Ukrainian.
Their spirits continue to live on in our hearts.
Being an artist is who I am.
It is and always has been the most vital and important part of me for as long as I can remember.
My jewelry exemplifies the visual excitement I find in layering textures, colors, values and materials. I strive to combine textures and unusual materials with a vibrant color palette.
I gather imagery and inspiration from the natural world around me; in particular the sea and forest. Moss greens, autumn coppers, silken leaves, woven shadows, luminescent waves, and polished stones all seemingly continue to appear and reappear throughout my work.
I incorporate a variety of techniques in my jewelry: sheet metal cutting, piercing and weaving, alcohol ink painting on silver, metal casting, along with traditional jewelry processes.
I have created a variety of media with jewelry in the forefront of my life for the past twenty years.
My training as an artist and jeweler began with my years at Skidmore College obtaining my BS in Art Education and obtained my MFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology School for American Craftsmen. I returned to teach at both RIT and Roberts Wesleyan College later in life along with hosting numerous workshops across the country. Today, my work is exhibited at multiple art shows, galleries and fine craft shops all across the United States.
In addition to being an artist, I have also had a long teaching career working with high school and college level students. I consider teaching to have been an integral part of my life as an artist;
I learned as much from my students about life, creativity and the visual arts as my students learned from me.
I grew up in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. These days, I’m dividing my time between New York and being on the road in my motor home "Maxine the Wonder Bus" ! She is reminiscent of my hippy days!
My creative life today allows me to work in my home studio or while I'm on the road traveling to shows across the country… Of course, in between all the adventures with my cats and “Maxine” along the way!
“Draw what you see,
not what you think you see”
“If you don’t succeed,
just paint over it”
“Big Bunny and Little Bunny will always travel through the wood with laughter and love.”
There was once a man who said:
“Inglemar”
and I fell helplessly into peels of laughter and love!
